One of the dominant talking points surrounding Halo Infinite right now is the lack of new content. As a free-to-play live service game, Halo Infinite started out strong from the start, but has been lackluster ever since, with players dropping the game in droves for more mature services. Steam stats are down, along with viewership on networks like Twitch, with developer 343i itself admitting the community’s patience is running out.
It seems, however, that a new mode is about to satisfy appetites in the meantime. The Halo Watchers at @Delta_Hub noticed that if you run the game in offline mode, the game shows a new feature called BTB: Last Spartan Standing, which seems to be the next free-for-all mode based on Big Team Battle.
Last Spartan Standing was first announced alongside Halo Infinite Season 2 Lone Wolves back in March, but if it’s already showing up in the custom game section, we should hear more soon. It’s unclear exactly how it plays, but based on the game description, it looks like a cross between a battle royale and a gun game, where you have better gear to kill others players, aiming to be the last player standing. We expect the mode to drop in May alongside the release of Season 2.
I’ve heard previous rumors that a much bigger Battle Royale-like mode is on the way, developed by Certain Affinity and codenamed Tatanka, which will launch much later. Last Spartan Standing may scratch the battle royale itch for some in the meantime, but it may also do little to stifle requests for new maps and other new content that the gaming community is eager for.
